Okolona Street Rod Club was founded July 20, 1973 with five rodders present. Currently, two of these
original members are still active in the club. The club acquired its NSRA charter membership March 15, 1974 with
twelve members. We incorporated in September of 1976 to protect the clubs interests. Our enrollment averages between
twenty-five and thirty participants.
In 1979 the Louisville Mini National Rod Run was held at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds and ran through 1983. The
event promoted Louisville as a street rod nationals location. This has evolved into the “granddaddy” of all street
rod events, the National Street Rod Association Nationals, as we know it today. Okolona Street Rods Club along with
the Louisville Street Rods Club man the information booth at this annual event. We also donate annually to the MSRA
Repair Shop and are proud to be listed as contributors on their trailer.
In 1980, we began hosting a hospitality booth at the Carl Casper Louisville Car Show.
This enables the many vendors to take a break throughout the course of the three-day show.
We began sponsoring a “Special Kids” Little league baseball team in 1985 and encouraged another local car club to do
the same. These two teams have a great time playing one another every Saturday throughout the season. This same year
we began contributing to a local charity for handicapped kids, the Crusade For Children.
In 1998, we started hosting a NSRA Appreciation Day at a local business, Plumformance. This gets the season started
and helps the NSRA safety representative to get some cars inspected.
In addition to the regular meetings, we try to have a club activity every month.
The Okolona Street Rod Club works very hard to be an active car club, social club and contributor to the community.
We plan to promote street rodding for many years to come.
